Is a Data Center Right for Your Business?

Nearly all businesses these days rely on computers to assist them with their daily operations. Although many small companies use their computers simply for minimal accounting and record keeping purposes, there are a growing number of larger and online businesses that are becoming more dependent on computers and advanced information systems to maintain daily operations.

Health care, insurance, and hosting firms are just a few of the industries that employ advanced telecommunication and information systems, and they often use these systems to store confidential client records, manage client accounts, and increase the speed of daily activities. For these industries, business continuity is a must.

Hospitals can’t afford to have their computer systems crash, since it would cause them to lose access to important patient information. If a host firm’s telecommunication system crashes, hundreds of clients may lose access to their websites, which may potentially cost thousands of dollars in business revenue. To ensure business continuity, many companies build data centers to house their telecommunication and information systems. For example, Facebook unveiled a new data center in Oregon. The center 38 percent more energy efficient, costs 24 percent less for continued maintenance, and will reduce Google's monopoly on data center planning by releasing the blueprint for this center online.

The primary function of a data center is to maintain operations, by providing controlled on or off-site locations designed to protect computer systems from environmental factors, which may lead to system failures. Data centers have rigid construction regulations and must include up-to-date equipment to support backup power supplies, redundant data communications connections, environmental controls, such as air conditioning and fire suppression, and security devices. Data centers are also a great way to protect information, because they provide a secure environment to reduce the likelihood of a security breach.

If your business has growing information storage or telecommunications needs, it may be time to consider investing in a data center. To ensure your data center meets the high standards of integrity and functionality required, you will need to contact a data center professional. Data center professionals know how to design premier data centers. They may even create a better facility with higher power density for companies already utilizing data centers, and can even help those that are deciding to consolidate current data center sites.

Computers are highly sensitive to environmental conditions, and for companies desiring to secure and protect their business’ information and telecommunication systems, having a reliable data center is a must. Losing a day of business, due to system failure, can cost a company thousands in revenue, and can hinder future business relationships. If a system breach occurs, exposing confidential client information, companies may also be held liable for any damages that may occur.

By utilizing a data center, companies benefit from not only protecting important information, but they can also increase the speed of their systems - optimizing business operations. Don’t let your business fall to your competitor due to system failures. Consider investing in a data center plan that will enhance the overall potential of your business and create further opportunities for expansion and profitability.
